Juli Soler, a man of wine (by Josep Roca)
From the foreword of Juli Soler que estás en la sala
This is how Josep Roca described Juli Soler in the foreword to the book Juli Soler que estás en la sala (Juli Soler Who Art in the House).

Juli Soler was a man of wine; yes, I know, and also of music, but he was a wise man of wine.

He had experienced everything there was in the world of wine.

He also made it his revolution by putting sherries on the front pages of the wine list, showing more appreciation than anybody else for these fortified wines.

Going to elBulli meant embarking on an experience with a taste of southern Spain, between Manzanillas Pasadas and Pata de Gallina, the unique and versatile world of sherry gained both local and international devotees thanks to its finest ambassador.

It is no wonder that the Copa Jerez International sherry and food pairing competition named its best sommelier award after him.

Nor is it any wonder that the wine edition of Madrid Fusión has a Juli Soler Award for Talent and the Future of Wine.

His fascination for great wines was matched only by the recognition he received at leading international events, where he was in his element.

He was one of the individuals chosen to be involved in the annual blending process at the legendary Château Latour with his friend Frédéric Engerer.

Well-loved in Burgundy, he was a regular at the Paulée de Meursault, one of the most exclusive events of the Trois Glorieuses de Bourgogne, and is one of the few to obtain a barrel of Corton-Vergennes every year at the Hospices de Beaune auction, together with his friend Mounir Saouma.
