Dinosaurs have disappeared from the face of the Earth, and America and Eurasia are drifting apart, leaving the Atlantic Ocean in the middle. In this environment, the Vitaceae find a habitat conducive to their survival and evolution. In this chapter we explore the oldest ancestor of Vitis discovered to date.
