The museum and the multimedia guide

What is elBulli1846?

elBulli1846 is the headquarters of elBullifoundation and is located on the site of the former elBullirestaurante. It is located at Cala Montjoi, in the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

Your visit to the museum will allow you to understand how the restaurant that was located here brought about a paradigm shift in world gastronomy. You will also be invited to reflect on the relationship between knowledge and innovation.

What does a visit to the museum include?

The route through elBulli1846 exhibition takes in four main spaces:

  • An outdoor space devoted to a reflection on cooking and innovation, the role of Bullinianos, and the Sapiens methodology and its applications.
  • The space that was formerly occupied by the elBullirestaurante showcases the key milestones in the history of elBulli.
  • A space dedicated to interdisciplinary relationships.
  • And finally, a space dedicated to elBulliDNA, where you can find information detailing all the projects carried out by the foundation.
Can I bring my children? Is there a childminding service?

Yes, you can visit the museum with children, but please be aware of our regulations. As the visit is estimated to take 2.5 hours, children may become tired.

  • elBulli1846 does not offer a childminding service.
  • Children under 11 enter free of charge if accompanied by a parent or guardian who has purchased tickets. In order to qualify for free admission, proof of eligibility must be shown.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
How long do I need to visit the exhibition?

The visit is estimated to take 2.5 hours.

What languages are used in the exhibitions and for visitor information?

The museum exhibits and visitor information are in Spanish, Catalan and English.

The multimedia guide is available in four languages: Spanish, Catalan, English and French.

I don’t have a smartphone and/or earphones that will allow me to make use of the multimedia guide. What can I do in this situation?

If you don’t have suitable devices to make use of the multimedia guide, we advise you to go to reception, which is located beside the main entrance, and tell our staff:

If you don’t have a smartphone, you will be provided with a device for your use during the visit.

If you don’t have earphones, you can purchase a pair at the museum shop.

Do I have to bring my own earphones to listen to the multimedia guide?

No, although it is recommended. You can also purchase a pair at the museum shop.

Accessibility

Is the museum accessible for people with impaired mobility?

Yes, elBulli1846 is accessible for people with impaired mobility, with all areas connected via paths and ramps. We have two free parking spaces reserved exclusively for people with impaired mobility. Advance booking is recommended.

We also have a wheelchair loan service available for pre-booking.

In the event of queues, preferential entry will be given to persons with disabilities or impaired mobility.

If I have a visual or hearing impairment, will I be able to enjoy a visit to the museum?

Yes, of course.

For each installation in the exhibition, the multimedia guide allows visually impaired visitors to listen to audio files with complementary content and hearing-impaired visitors to read an equivalent text. Available in four languages (Spanish, Catalan, English and French).

Entry is permitted for guide dogs and assistance dogs to aid the blind, the visually impaired and any other visitors with a disability requiring the use of assistance dogs.

How to arrive

How do I get to the museum?

elBulli1846 is located at Cala Montjoi, which is 7.5 km from the centre of Roses.

You can arrive in your own vehicle, although please note that access to the National Park area is restricted at certain times of the year. Nevertheless, you can gain access to elBulli1846 on showing your museum ticket.

Please note that to reach Cala Montjoi from the centre of Roses, you need to travel along Avenida Gran Via de Pau Casals until the turning at Carretera a Montjoi.

You can also reach Cala Montjoi by sea, although we should mention that there is no jetty in the cove and you will have to make your own way to the beach from the mooring buoy you can hire.

Does the museum have a car park?

elBulli1846 has a private car park for the exclusive use of museum visitors.

 

At the time you purchase your ticket, you will have the option to pre-book a parking space for a period of 3 hours. Available time slots for parking spaces will be indicated to facilitate your booking.

There is a strict 3-hour limit and no time extensions are permitted. Once your time limit has expired, the parking space must be vacated to allow entry for another vehicle.

Free parking service:

  • Spaces for vehicles used by visitors with severe disabilities (subject to availability, according to previous booking).
  • Parking spaces for motorcycles
  • Parking spaces for bicycles
Road restrictions. What do I have to show at the entry barrier?

Inside the Natural Park boundaries, road access for vehicles (except motorcycles and bicycles) is restricted on all days during the period between 22 June and 11 September from the hours of 10.00 to 17.00.

Your purchase of a ticket to visit elBulli1846 will exempt you from this restriction. Just show your ticket to the person in charge of the barrier controlling entry to the Natural Park, which can be found halfway between Roses and Cala Montjoi, at the location called Mirador de Punta Falconera. You will be able to continue your journey to elBulli1846 without any problems.

The exemption is only valid for vehicular entry on the day of your booking.

Tickets, access, opening times and prices

Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

We recommend you buy tickets online to enable you to choose the day and time of your preference.

elBulli1846 also sells tickets at a number of ticket office sites, where prices are subject to an additional service charge. See information on all ticket prices here

How will I receive my tickets?

If you purchase tickets online, upon completion of the purchasing process you will receive an email with your tickets as a PDF document to download. Check your inbox and spam folder. If you do not receive them, please contact us at info@elbulli1846.com or by calling (+34) 638 00 18 46.

Is the ticket available as a gift voucher?

With the gift voucher option, open-dated tickets can be purchased allowing the recipient to visit the museum at a time of their choosing. Once the purchase has been made, you will receive a confirmation email with a code that can be redeemed when making a reservation through our website.

Gift vouchers are valid for the whole duration of the 2024 season (the season closes on October 12, 2024).

The multimedia guide is included in the price of the ticket.

How can I present the purchased tickets?

You can either print out your ticket or show the downloaded version on your mobile device or tablet.

Can tickets be changed or refunded?

Once a ticket has been purchased, changes can be made or refunds given for a period of up to 24 hours after purchase.

Should the museum have to close for reasons beyond its control, tickets will automatically be refunded in full.

 

How long before my visit starts should I arrive at the museum?

You have an interval of 15 minutes in which to enter the museum before your visit starts. Therefore, we kindly ask you to be present at the time indicated on your ticket.

If you have pre-booked a parking space, you can only enter the car park 15 minutes before the time your museum visit is due to start.

Can I visit the museum as part of a group?

For groups of between 10 and 18 people, tickets can be purchased online using the Groups (+10) rate. For groups of more than 18 people, please contact info@elbulli1846.com, in order to guarantee a time slot that enables the entire group to access at the same time.

I’m from a school. Can I visit the museum with my students?

If you are a teaching professional and are interested in arranging a visit with your students, please contact us at info@elbulli1846.com and we will provide you with the necessary information.

Can I buy souvenirs?

Yes, you can purchase mementos of your visit at the official museum shop, located at the exit.

Do you need an entrance ticket to go to the museum shop?

No, the museum shop has a separate entrance with free entry. The opening hours of the shop are the same as those of the museum.

 

Services

Is there a restaurant?

No, there is no restaurant.

Remember that elBulli1846 is no longer elBullirestaurante, and we do not offer a meal service.

Are there lockers to store bags and items of luggage?

Yes. For your safety, backpacks and other large bags must be stored in the cloakroom lockers.

The size of the lockers is 45 x 40 cm, the standard size for a backpack.

Other questions

Will the museum open if it rains?

Visits will not be cancelled in the event of rain, wind, fog or any other non-extreme weather.

No refunds will therefore be given for this reason.

In the event of extreme weather conditions that pose a risk to the safety of visitors, visits will be cancelled. In this case, any tickets affected by these circumstances will be refunded by the same payment method used for their purchase.

elBulli1846 is a museum with an outdoor section. Please take this fact into consideration when preparing for the visit.

Are animals allowed?

Animals are not permitted, except for guide and assistance dogs.

Can I take photographs?

Taking and posting of images or content for commercial or informative purposes is strictly forbidden without the explicit authorisation of the foundation. If you would like to apply for permission, you can do so at the following email address: press@elbulifoundation.com
